Fertility Management

Our clients with routine fertility visits benefit from reduced fees, with call out costs included and free regular mobility or body condition scoring. Two experienced vets are generally assigned to each dairy, to ensure you have continuity of care and more than one point of contact should you wish to discuss something. Our vets can use TotalVet to analyse your fertility and performance, to offer you the best service possible. Our farmers control the frequency of their routines, meaning block calving herds can still benefit from our vets’ expertise and reduced fees.

Mastitis Control

Our dairies can work with any of our team to investigate individual mastitis cases or outbreaks on their farm. Analysis of the patterns of mastitis cases and somatic cell counts alongside culturing the pathogen responsible for the disease are key elements in a successful mastitis control plan, alongside an assessment of husbandry and parlour management. Farms which regularly milk record can benefit from running regular Total Vet reports which can be discussed with their vet to help best manage mastitis and cell counts at both the herd and individual cow level.

Lameness

Lameness in dairy cattle is costly, both in terms of time spent with milk out of the tank whilst under treatment, animal welfare and overall productivity. Our vets can work with you to reduce your herd lameness prevalence, often in conjunction with mobility scoring from one of our RoMS accredited veterinary technicians.

Nutrition

Correct dry cow nutrition, lactating ration and heifer nutritional management are key to a healthy herd. Our vets can work with you to ensure adequate energy, protein, mineral and vitamin levels are achieved, reducing the likelihood of diseases such as ketosis, hypocalcaemia and LDAs. Working with your feed rep, we aim to provide you with the best service possible to ensure your cows remain healthy and productive.

Herd Health Planning

Health planning is becoming more complex, as milk suppliers ask for more evidence of the care and management you put into your herd. We are here to help ensure all the correct paperwork is completed, but also help you to get the most out of your health planning. If you have routines, your vet will regularly review your herd’s overall health and performance, as well as provide disease treatment protocols, monitor antibiotic use, and produce care plans. Our MilkSure, Action Johnes and BVD accredited vets can provide the highest level of training to you and your staff, to help control antibiotic use without compromising welfare, avoid bulk tank failures, and reduce your incidence of Johnes and BVD.

TB Testing

Our team of vets and dedicated TB testers aim to provide an excellent and efficient service. Both whole herd tests and pre-movements can be booked in by calling our reception team.

Vet Technician Services

Our vet techs are RoMS accredited for mobility scoring, fully trained for body condition scoring, cleanliness scoring, calf health assessment and calf disbudding. They can also provide on farm support should you be short staffed at TB testing time. Should you require regular mobility scoring, you will be assigned a single vet tech, to keep continuity of care throughout.

Grass Discussion Group

Our grass-based diary discussion group is well established, with regular meetings hosted in conjunction with AHDB. Farm walks, discussions and guest speakers ensure that our group is kept up to date with the latest developments and schools of thought in pasture management and cattle care.

Emergencies

As an independent practice, we manage all emergencies amongst our own team of vets. Our on-call vet holds the phone, meaning you can always get directly through to the person you need. Cattle caesareans are always attended by two vets, giving the highest chance of a successful outcome through increasing the speed, quality, and cleanliness of the operation. Just call our normal Launceston number to speak to our emergency vet – 01566 772371.
