Smallholders

Health Planning

Every small holding is unique. It is our job at Castle Vets to ensure your animals are healthy, happy, and receiving the best care possible. From micro-flocks to goat herds, backyard pigs to alpacas, we can support you by discussing the best way to manage your animals and land. Please feel free to contact us with any problems – large or small – and we can work together to ensure your animals get the best possible care.

Nutritional + Grazing Advice

Small holdings often present unique challenges in terms of correct grazing management and ensuring balanced nutrition of all stock. Using your pasture correctly and efficiently will help keep your animals healthy, reduce parasite challenge and ensure they live a happy life. Please give our vets a call with any questions you may have.

Parasite Monitoring and Control

Issues such as gut and lung-worms can be difficult to tackle on smaller areas of pasture. Working with our team of vets can give you the tools you will need to reduce the impact of these problems on your stock. Our in-house dung worm-egg-counting service provides fast, reliable results via the new OvaCyte machine, to let you know how your stock are getting on and inform you about the appropriateness of different treatment options.

Tailored Goat Services

Having provided care to hundreds of goats over the years, Castle Vets is well set up to provide your animal(s) with the best possible care. We regularly disbud and castrate kids – just be sure to call us ahead of time as the disbudding procedure must be carried out before the kid is seven days old! Parasite monitoring, nutritional management and mastitis control are also crucial parts of caring for goats, and our vets are happy to discuss all this and more with you.

Training Courses

Castle Vets benefits from the ability to run in person, high quality training courses throughout the year. From basic medicines handling to practical lambing courses, we aim to tailor our support to our clients.
